Why Give to the Hillsboro Community Foundation?
There are many worthy non-profit organizations, programs and projects in our community - most of them reliant to some extent on supplementary private contributions to stay afloat. Once you've made a decision to contribute, however, it can be difficult to determine what to do next. Will there be a focus for your giving? Are there specific causes or projects within the community that you want to support?
Connecting donors with organizations, projects and programs is one of the most important roles of the Hillsboro Community Foundation. Given the diverse makeup of its board of directors, the Foundation has high visibility to what is happening within the community, and where its greatest needs lie. Gifts may be targeted according to the wishes of the donor, or be distributed at the discretion of the Foundation board if no preference is indicated.
There are tax benefits as well. The Hillsboro Community Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) organization according to Internal Revenue Service code. All contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible, regardless of how they are distributed within the community. This enables the Foundation to direct tax-deductible donations to other non-profit organizations within the community that may not have tax-exempt status.
The Foundation may accept donations of cash and real estate for distribution within the community. Any asset entrusted to the Foundation is managed prudently, with goals to maximize return, minimize risk, and promote stability, flexibility, diversity and liquidity as appropriate.
