Gordon Faber Scholarship Recipient 2017

David Nicolas Vargas Puga, a graduate from Hillsboro High School, is the recipient of the $1,500 2017 Gordon Faber Scholarship for healthcare education.  David was selected through a competitive application and interview process from among finalists representing each of Hillsboro’s public high schools.  He will attend Portland State University and plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

David has overcome many hardships throughout his life; “All of the adversity I endured involving influenced me to become the person I am today” said David about excelling academically and in his extracurricular activities.  He not only earned a high GPA and Honor Roll status throughout high school, but also was awarded a full IB Diploma and the Bilingual Seal for Spanish.   Outside of the classroom, David was involved in many activities including Link Crew, M.E.Ch.A, Key Club, and the National Honor Society, and served as both a peer mentor, and a math tutor.

The Gordon Faber Scholarship was established in 2001 in recognition of former Hillsboro Mayor Gordon Faber’s service to the community.  The scholarship fund and program is managed by HCF that supports organizations and programs to enhance the quality of life in greater Hillsboro.
